Who Attends: ATs, PTs and OTs (Note to Athletic Trainers: According to the education levels described by the PDC, the following continuing education seminar is considered to be Mastery Level. 15 approved CEU hours.)

This emergency procedures seminar will highlight current best practices in the field of athletic training. This seminar will deliver a hands-on approach to emphasizing the proper skill set required for handling emergency situations. Circumstances addressed will include head trauma, spinal cord injury, establishing and maintaining airways, managing environmental illness, patient death, and many others.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this seminar, the attendee should be able to:

     • Perform simulated athletic training related emergency care interventions

     • Identify the most current standards of care for athletic training emergencies

     • Perform the psychomotor skills associated with effective emergency care intervention techniques including recognizing the signs and symptoms of various injuries, illnesses and life threatening conditions

     • Effectively communicate with interdisciplinary health care providers in an emergency situation

     • Familiarize and develop competency with emergency care equipment and collaborative procedures

     • Display competence when providing emergency care to patients at a televised event

     • Identify chain of command and effective lines of communication for an emergency situation

     • Become familiar with care provisions on an emergency medical vehicle
